ABOUT

Here’s the deal: BetterU isn’t your run-of-the-mill therapy platform. It’s a personalised adventure, a ride into the wonderful world of YOU.

BetterU was founded by Declan Harrigan, a therapist, clinical supervisor, mental health trainer and social entrepreneur after being the founder of S.M.I.L.E. Counselling. With an experience of working in the mental health field since 1999 he has a true passion for ensuring that clients are provided with the best therapeutic experience they deserve and not just what might be available at the time.

His vision is to empower people to have a better state of mind, which means enabling the whole body to work in cohesion from emotional wellbeing, physical health, financial wellbeing, nutritional awareness and spiritual comfort, which will allow people to become the best version of themselves or, a BetterU.

BetterU is not just another therapy platform, it is the beginning of an individual personal journey for each person that uses it. You will be provided with regular confidential updates and reports based on your progress through your therapy and what you have achieved through your time with BetterU. As a member of BetterU it doesn’t stop at your therapy, you will be given unrestricted access to all of our tools, materials and resources to use as and when you like.

Our ultimate aim is to change mindset about therapy being about ‘fixing’ a problem when it is broken and more so it is about a prevention and care for self without waiting till the wheels come off. You matter, you are important and you are worth it. You should not have to wait to be broken to be fixed. We don’t wait for the house to burn down and then put in the fire alarms, we put them in first to prevent and protect.

Joining BetterU is about focusing on you, becoming a BetterU, and building better tomorrows.

What's the Difference Between Face-to-Face Counselling and Online Counselling?

Communication Medium

Face-to-Face: In-person counselling involves physical meetings between the counsellor and client.

Online: Online counselling is conducted through digital platforms, using video, audio, or text chat.

Accessibility

Face-to-Face: Limited by geographical proximity, requiring clients to travel to the counsellor’s location.

Online: Offers accessibility to individuals regardless of their location, reducing travel constraints.

Comfort & Convenience

Face-to-Face: Provides a traditional and personal setting but may require scheduling and commuting.

Online: Offers greater flexibility, allowing clients to engage from the comfort of their own space and choose convenient appointment times.

Anonymity

Face-to-Face: May be less anonymous, which can be a concern for some clients.

Online: Provides a higher degree of anonymity, making it appealing to those who value privacy.

The benefits of online counselling...

Accessibility

It reaches individuals who might not have access to traditional counselling services due to distance or mobility issues.

Convenience

Online counselling offers flexible scheduling, making it easier for people with busy lives to seek help.

Anonymity

Clients can maintain a higher level of privacy, which can be especially important for sensitive issues.

Communication Options

Online counselling can be conducted via video, voice, or text chat, allowing clients to choose their preferred mode.

Comfort

Clients can engage in therapy from the comfort of their own environment, potentially increasing their comfort and openness.

Cost-Effective

It can be more affordable than traditional counselling, as it eliminates travel expenses.

Continuity of Care

Online counselling allows clients to continue therapy when they relocate, ensuring uninterrupted support.

Access to Specialists

Clients can easily connect with specialized counsellors or therapists who may not be locally available.

COVID-19 Response

Online counselling became crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing a safe alternative to in-person therapy.

Environmentally friendly

Online therapy eliminates both therapist and client meeting at a location. This in turns removes the need for travel by car, bus etc. Creating zero emissions and using less energy in the process.

Ready to get started?

It’s essential to note that both face-to-face and online counselling have their advantages, and the choice depends on individual preferences, needs, and circumstances.
