Suicide Prevention

Level 2

H.O.P.E. - Hear. Observe. Prevent. Engage

H.O.P.E. is a practical suicide prevention training designed to help individuals recognise early warning signs, respond with confidence, and engage in supportive conversations before crisis point.

The course introduces a clear, memorable framework — Hear, Observe, Prevent, Engage — supporting Continuing Professional Development by strengthening awareness, communication skills, and early intervention capability.

· Increase awareness of verbal and non-verbal invitations for help

· Improve confidence in observing behavioural, emotional, and situational changes

· Strengthen early prevention through timely, supportive conversations

· Develop skills to engage openly and compassionately without needing to “fix”

· Promote shared responsibility for suicide prevention across teams and organisations

Level 3

S.I.T. – Suicide Intervention Training

Suicide Intervention Training (S.I.T.) is an advanced, practical course designed to build professional confidence and competence when responding to suicide risk.

The training supports Continuing Professional Development by strengthening evidence-based intervention skills, reflective practice, and emotional readiness for high-risk conversations.

· Increase confidence in recognising and responding to suicide risk

· Develop competence in asking direct, compassionate questions about suicide

· Strengthen calm, person-centred responses in emotionally charged situations

· Promote safe, ethical intervention and professional resilience

This course contributes to CPD by enhancing practical skills, reflective insight, and professional resilience in suicide intervention, aligned with national suicide prevention priorities across Scotland and the UK.

ASIST – Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

ASIST is a two-day in person, highly practical workshop designed to help people recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide and respond confidently and compassionately.

The training is interactive, experiential and grounded in real-world scenarios. Participants practice through guided discussion, skills rehearsal and supported role-play in a safe learning environment.

This course is suitable for professionals and community members alike — particularly those working in education, health & social care, third sector, housing, youth work, community organisations and frontline services.

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify signs that someone may be at risk of suicide

  • Engage in a focused suicide intervention conversation

  • Apply the ASIST intervention model step-by-step

  • Work collaboratively to reduce immediate risk

  • Build a short-term safety plan that strengthens reasons for living

  • Understand the importance of connection, support and follow-up

Participants must attend both full days to receive their certificate.

Building on introductory learning, this interactive session helps participants understand how trauma can affect regulation, communication, and relationships at work and how this shows up in everyday interactions with colleagues, clients, and service users.

Building on core trauma-informed knowledge, the course focuses on applying the six trauma-informed principles in real-world scenarios, supporting Continuing Professional Development through reflective practice, skills development, and relational awareness.

Trauma-Informed Practice for Leaders & Teams – Level 3 is an advanced course designed to support leaders and senior teams to embed trauma-informed principles across culture, systems, and practice.

The training focuses on leadership responsibility, organisational design, and reflective practice, supporting Continuing Professional Development by strengthening psychologically safe environments, ethical decision-making, and sustainable team wellbeing.

· Build a shared understanding of trauma-informed principles at organisational and leadership level

· Audit workplace culture, policies, and procedures through a trauma-informed lens

· Identify and address barriers to psychological safety, trust, and inclusion

· Understand legal, ethical, and safeguarding responsibilities within Scotland-based services

· Redesign key processes (e.g. complaints, supervision, onboarding) using trauma-informed principles

Advanced Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Training – Level 3 is a senior-level course designed for those with responsibility for leading, overseeing, and assuring safeguarding practice within organisations.

The training focuses on strategic leadership, complex decision-making, and governance, supporting Continuing Professional Development by strengthening confidence, accountability, and trauma-informed safeguarding leadership in high-risk and sensitive situations.

· Strengthen understanding of the DSL role, leadership responsibilities, and accountability

· Develop confidence in recognising, responding to, and recording complex safeguarding concerns

· Apply sound judgement in consent, information sharing, and referral decision-making

· Manage high-risk and complex cases, including situations involving refusal of consent
